Some treatments show results within days, while others build gradually over several weeks.
Botox / Neuromodulators Aftercare
Proper aftercare following Botox injections is crucial to ensure optimal results and minimize potential side effects. Follow these guidelines for the best outcome.
- Remain upright; avoid lying down or bending over.
- Do not touch, rub, or massage the treated areas.
- Avoid applying makeup to the injection sites.
- Refrain from consuming alcohol or blood-thinning medications.
- Use facial muscles naturally to help the Botox settle properly.
- Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating.
- Do not receive facials, chemical peels, or other facial treatments.
- Skip hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms.
- Continue to avoid touching or massaging the treated areas.
- Use sunscreen daily to protect your skin and maintain results.
- Maintain a consistent facial care routine as advised by your practitioner.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Air travel for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
- Excessive heat exposure or tanning for at least a week.
- Alcohol consumption for 24 hours after the procedure.
- Blood-thinning medications or supplements (unless medically necessary) for 24 hours.
Contact your practitioner immediately if you experience:
- Persistent pain, swelling, or bruising at injection sites.
- Drooping eyelids or asymmetry in facial expressions.
- Signs of allergic reaction (rash, itching, or difficulty breathing).
Dermal Filler Aftercare
Dermal fillers are injected to improve shape, proportion, lines, shadows, or wrinkles. Results are immediate, although swelling can temporarily affect how the final result appears. Most dermal filler results last between 6–18 months.
What’s Normal After a Procedure
Due to the anesthetic in the gel, you may feel numbness or tingling immediately after the procedure. Moderate swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness over the treated areas are also common.
Some people experience a dull ache or tenderness which usually settles within 48–72 hours. Mild, non‑painful swelling can last for up to 2 weeks. Bruising is often visible initially, may appear more noticeable the following day, and typically fades over 7–14 days. In a small number of cases, bruising may last 4–6 weeks.
- Avoid exposure to UV light and heat such as saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, hot showers, or strenuous exercise.
- Keep the treated area cool with a cold compress, but do not apply ice directly to the skin.
- Avoid facial massage or skin resurfacing treatments until the area has fully healed.
- Do not touch the treated area for at least 6 hours after the procedure.
- Do not apply makeup over injection points until the day after treatment.
Serious complications are rare, but it’s vital you seek urgent review if anything like this occurs:
- Swelling, lumpiness or puffiness which does not fade in the first week with a gentle massage.
- The filler changes texture and becomes hard, lumpy or nodular, especially if there is redness or tenderness after 48 hours.
All these symptoms may indicate a need for medical assistance from your clinician or family doctor if you are unable to see us, but please contact us so we can advise.
IMPORTANT: Contact us immediately if you have symptoms of a blocked blood vessel. If you develop increasing pain near or above the site of injection which is getting worse over time, especially if associated with a pale area of skin indicating a lack of blood flow, contact us right away.
In rare cases, an urgent reversal or other medical interventions may be required immediately to prevent scarring. If we are unreachable, attendance at urgent care is advised. Make contact with us soon as possible so we can advise other clinicians to help them.
Microneedling Aftercare
Proper aftercare following a microneedling treatment is crucial to ensure optimal results and minimize complications. Follow these guidelines to care for your skin post-treatment.
Your skin may appear pink to moderately red, similar to a sunburn. It may feel warm, tight, or slightly sensitive. Avoid touching your skin for 4–6 hours. After this period, you may gently rinse with lukewarm water only. Avoid makeup, heavy creams, or SPF until the next day unless directed otherwise.
Redness and sensitivity should calm within 24–48 hours. Keep skin hydrated and use only a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Avoid exfoliants, actives such as Retinol, AHA/BHA, vitamin C. Wear SPF and avoid direct sun exposure. Skip workouts, saunas, and swimming for 48 hours.
Skin tone will return to normal. Light flaking or dryness may occur as your skin renews. Continue gentle, hydrating care and start daily SPF 30+. Avoid harsh products until your skin feels fully healed.
Your skin will gradually become smoother, firmer, and more radiant. Maintain a simple, consistent skincare routine with cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. Hydrate well and protect your skin from the sun. You may reintroduce gentle actives like vitamin C or retinol after one week if your skin tolerates them well.
Mild redness, tightness, dryness, or minor flaking is very normal. Temporary purging can occur as skin renews.
Contact your provider if you experience prolonged redness beyond 5–7 days, significant swelling, rash, or any signs of infection (pain, warmth, pus, or streaking).
Microneedling treatments are typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart. During this time, focus on barrier repair and sun protection. Avoid resurfacing treatments unless advised. Collagen production continues for up to 3 months post-treatment, so results build progressively with each session.
PRP for Under-Eye Rejuvenation
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) under-eye treatments stimulate collagen production and improve skin quality over time. Following these aftercare instructions will help support healing and ensure the best possible results.
- Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising around the under-eye area is normal and may last up to 3–5 days.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area.
- Do not apply makeup or skincare products for at least 12–24 hours.
- Avoid direct sunlight, saunas, or any heat exposure for 48 hours.
- You may use a cool compress intermittently to help reduce swelling, but avoid placing ice directly on the skin.
- You may resume gentle cleansing with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser after 24 hours.
- Avoid active skincare ingredient, such as retinol, exfoliants, acids, or vitamin C for at least 3–5 days.
- Bruising may appear darker before it begins to fade — this is normal.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated to help minimize swelling.
- If discomfort occurs, acetaminophen may be used, but avoid ibuprofen or anti-inflammatories for the first 48 hours.
- Swelling and bruising should continue to improve.
- You may resume your usual skincare routine once the skin feels back to normal.
- Continue to avoid excessive sun exposure and wear sunscreen daily.
- Do not undergo laser treatments, microneedling, or chemical peels around the treated area for at least 2 weeks.
- PRP stimulates collagen and improves skin texture gradually over time.
- Results typically become noticeable between 3–6 weeks, with continued improvement for several months.
- A series of treatments is recommended for optimal results, followed by maintenance sessions every 6–12 months.
- If you experience unusual pain, significant swelling, vision changes, or signs of infection, contact SolSkinn Medical Aesthetics immediately.
PRP for Hair Restoration
Platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration uses your body’s natural growth factors to stimulate hair follicles and support thicker, healthier hair over time. Following these aftercare guidelines helps protect the treated area and supports the best possible results.
- Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling of the scalp is normal and typically subsides within 24–48 hours.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated areas.
- Do not wash or wet your hair for at least 6–12 hours after treatment.
- Avoid applying any products, sprays, or dry shampoo to the scalp.
- Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid excessive heat exposure.
- You may gently wash your hair after 24 hours using a mild, sulfate‑free shampoo.
- Do not use hair dye, bleach, or chemical treatments for at least one week.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or swimming pools.
- Refrain from intense exercise, sweating, or wearing tight hats or headbands.
- If tenderness occurs, you may use a cool compress or take acetaminophen. Avoid anti‑inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, as they may interfere with the healing process.
- Any redness or tenderness should be resolved.
- Resume normal haircare and styling products unless otherwise directed.
- Continue to protect your scalp from sun exposure by wearing a hat or using sunscreen if outdoors.
- Keep your scalp clean and avoid scratching or picking at any areas of dryness.
- Hair growth occurs gradually over several months as follicles are stimulated.
- Most clients notice visible improvement between 3–6 months, with continued thickening over time.
- A series of treatments is typically recommended for best results, followed by maintenance sessions every 6–12 months.
Chemical Peel Aftercare
A chemical peel is a deep exfoliation treatment that removes damaged outer layers of skin to reveal smoother, healthier-looking skin underneath. Proper aftercare following a chemical peel is crucial to ensure optimal healing, minimize complications, and achieve the best results.
- Do not touch, rub, or scratch the treated area.
- Avoid applying makeup or other skincare products unless specifically advised by your practitioner.
- Keep your skin cool and dry; avoid excessive sweating.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated to reduce swelling.

- Continue applying moisturizer and sunscreen as directed.
- Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for at least a week.
- Exfoliating products (physical or chemical) for at least 2 weeks.
- Retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids, or beta-hydroxy acids for 1–2 weeks.
- Waxing or other hair removal treatments in the treated area for 2–3 weeks.
- Excessive heat exposure from exercise or hot showers.
